In the significance testing of a hypothesis, there are two kinds of mistakes an analyst may make: type i error and type ii error. One minus the Type II error of a statistical test defines the power of the same test. The power of a test is related to the true population parameter, the population variance of the distribution related to the test, the sample size, and the level of significance for the test.
