American Society for Nanomedicine

The American Society for Nanomedicine (ASNM) is a professional nonprofit medical society headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia. It promotes worldwide seminal research activities in nanomedicine and explores the applications of nanotechnology in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Its members, drawn from diverse, yet overlapping fields such as biotechnology, engineering, medicine, and law, also discuss issues such as ethics, toxicity, patents, and commercialization.

According to the society's Website, the group intends the following mission: “We enthusiastically announce the formation of a new, democratic and transparent professional society, American Society for Nanomedicine (ASNM). ASNM's activities will focus on innovative cutting-edge research in nanomedicine as well as the applications of nanotechnology to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. While promoting seminal research activities in nanomedicine worldwide, issues such as ethics, safety and toxicity, intellectual property, and commercialization will also be addressed and explored. We hope to achieve these goals through an open forum of ideas and collaborative efforts, alongside close cooperation and coordination with our American and international colleagues.”

ASNM's inaugural conference, the 1st Annual Conference of the American Society for Nanomedicine, was held in Potomac, Maryland, during October 22–25, 2009. The Society publishes the International Journal of Nanomedicine, an international, peer-reviewed journal focusing on the application of nanotechnology in diagnostics, therapeutics, and drug delivery systems throughout the biomedical field. Reflecting the growing activity in this emerging specialty, the aim of this journal is to highlight research and development leading to potential clinical applications in the prevention and treatment of disease.
