Cousins, J. Bradley

Cousins is Professor of Educational Administration in the Faculty of Education, University of Ottawa, Canada. He was previously on the faculty at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto.

His primary contributions to the field of evaluation have been the empirical study of evaluation and the development of evaluation theory, especially regarding evaluation utilization and participatory and collaborative forms of evaluation and applied research. Other areas of interest include evaluation utilization, knowledge utilization, organizational learning, and the implementation of innovative programs. Main intellectual influences on his work include Kenneth Stanley, Kenneth Leithwood, John Ross, Marvin Alkin, and Michael Huberman.

He is the author of many journal articles, evaluation reports, and chapters, including a chapter in the International Handbook of Educational Evaluation. He is the author of Participatory Evaluation Up Close and Coeditor of Participatory Evaluation in Education: Studies in Evaluation Use and Organizational Learning (with Lorna M. Earl). He is also Coauthor of Classroom Assessment: Changing the Face; Facing the Change (with L. Earl); and Developing Leaders for Future Schools(with K. Leithwood and P. Begely). He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation and ex-officio member of the Canadian Evaluation Society National Council. He is the recipient of the Doctoral Dissertation Award from the Canadian Association for Studies in Educational Administration and the 1999 Contributions to Evaluation in Canada Award from the Canadian Evaluation Society.
