An overarching term for the field of geospatial technology, which derives from the combination of geodesy (emphasising survey) with geoinformatics (emphasising information). It includes cartography (especially mathematical cartography), geographic information systems (GIS) (including geographical information science), global positioning systems (GPSs), global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs), map projection, photogrammetry, remote sensing and surveying. Hydrogeomatics involves similar technologies applied in or over the ocean and other waterbodies.
