ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER
A relatively large-scale event, caused by human agency, that results in high levels of environmental damage over a large area. There are consequences for ecosystem health and possibly for human health and economic activities. Examples include major oil spills, chemical escapes, oil fires and nuclear accidents.
