CONTROLLED TIPPING
The commonest method for the disposal of domestic waste. It contrasts with fly tipping, which is unwanted disposal. The refuse is tipped in layers, each of which is subjected to compaction and sealed by a covering layer of inert material. Controlled tipping prevents, for example, unsightliness, offensive odours, the dispersal of refuse by wind or water and the breeding of pests.
