The semi-permanent but discontinuous boundary in the atmosphere between the very cold, dense air mass controlled by the cold Arctic anticyclone and the less cold polar air mass. It is a passive front, positional changes being the result of gravity and air mass weight. It is weaker and less dynamic than the more southerly polar front.
