Extensions of Remarks

Each issue of the Congressional Record has a special section that serves almost as a scrapbook of the day. Legislators who want to publicize articles, newspaper stories, or other information can submit the text for a section called “Extensions of Remarks,” which is located in the back pages of the Record. Any statement expected to take up more than two printed pages must be accompanied by an estimate of printing costs.

Senators usually prefer to have their articles or undelivered speeches printed as part of the day's floor debate, instead of in “Extensions of Remarks.” The extra section is popular with House members, who often fill several pages.
