Totalitarian
A type of government rule that is driven by an ideology that seeks control over all aspects of public activity. Totalitarian regimes reject liberal values. Instead, they exercise total control over the lives of subjects, including private morality, culture, religion, sports, science, politics, and economics. Totalitarian regimes are run by single-mass parties, whereby citizen participation in politics, such as voting, is compulsory. There is some disagreement about the relationship between totalitarian and authoritarian regimes. Some argue that totalitarian regimes are more repressive than authoritarian ones, whereas others believe that the two systems differ completely.
