An intervention to help people cope, manage difficulties, adapt to life circumstances, or deal with crisis, disturbances, or disorders. The term is used interchangeably with psychotherapy (traditionally more intensive and long-term) or counseling (traditionally short-term and less intense). Treatments address a medical or physical condition or crisis, interpersonal relationships, cognitive challenges or disabilities, or emotional, psychological, or mental distress. Methods of intervention may include talk and communication, behavior changes, or the creative arts. The therapist is a trained and licensed professional with extensive supervised experience in working with clients.
