Sensory Adaptation
The fading sensitivity to an ongoing sensory stimulus. The term applies to all the senses. An individual will experience a change in sensation over time, due to a steady decline in response to the sensory stimulation. For example, if one were to listen to prolonged noise, that noise would be experi enced as less loud over time. Sensory adaptation is based on sensory neurons responding less over time.
