Confessing or giving information that implicates oneself in an offense. The Fifth Amend ment of the U.S. Constitution grants protection from incriminating oneself. Law enforcement officers are not permitted to use physical or psychological coercion during an interrogation. Prior to questioning a person in custody, the police must read the Miranda warning.
