Reciprocal Teaching
A collaborative instructional method for improving reading comprehension in which a teacher and a group of students dialogue about a segment of text. It includes teaching the following comprehension strategies: summarizing, questioning, clarifying, and predicting. First, a teacher models reading comprehension strategies and guides students in learning to use the strategies. Gradually, the teacher shifts responsibility to the students, who can actively use the strategies, assume the role of “teacher,” and lead the discussion.
