Rebuttal
The act of a sender receiving an oppositional response from a receiver in an exchange of communi cation. This message is characterized as being a purposeful comeback that negates the stated argument of another party. It can involve information that directly contra dicts that of the sender or the presentation of additional information to build an argument as evidence of the sender's inaccuracy. A rebuttal can occur in both formal and informal settings. Moreover, it can lead to a situation of argumentativeness. A rebuttal is considered to be part of an aggressive mode of verbal communication but can also involve nonverbal behavior.
