Qualitative Criminology
An area of study that aims to document detailed information about human and social behaviors in issues that are of relevance to the disciplines of criminology and criminal justice. Some of the methods used to collect qualitative data include in-depth interviews, direct observation, and participation in the environment of interest. One of the major benefits of qualitative research is that it enables the collection of in-depth information about the topic at hand and provides a better tool for understanding the processes underlying the phenomenon at hand. One of the main pitfalls of qualitative research relates to the limited ability to generalize findings to a larger reference population.
