Prejudice (Psychology)
Negative feelings toward others based solely on their membership in a certain group. People often dislike others because they are different. Farley classified prejudice into three categories—cognitive prejudice, affective prejudice, and conative prejudice. Cognitive prejudice refers to what people believe is true. Affective prejudice refers to what people like and dislike. Conative prejudice refers to how people are inclined to behave. These three types of prejudice are correlated, but all need not be present in a particular individual. For more information, see Farley (2005) and Miles, Mark, and Hazel (2002).
