The science concerned with the origin of diseases, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. In human pathology, this is achieved through examination of the human anatomy. There are two main areas of pathology: (1) anatomical pathology and (2) clinical pathology. Clinical pathology aims to investigate diseases based on bodily fluids (i.e., blood, urine, saliva). Anatomical pathology studies diseases based on tissues and organs. The science of pathology extends to nonhumans, such as animals (referred to as veterinary pathology) and plants (i.e., phytopathology). It can also be extended to psychological explanations of behavior (i.e., psychopathology).
