Marxism (Sociology)
The political and socioeconomic philosophy derived from the work of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. The fundamental ideology of communism, Marxism suggests that class struggle (the conflict between classes with opposing interests) and economics have been the main determinants of historical change in society, in which the bourgeoisie (the owning, nonworking class) has exploited the proletariat (the non-owning, working class) for profit. According to Marxism, the proletariat will revolt to overthrow the capitalist economic system of production and create a socialist society without class divisions. Recent adaptations of Marxism include Leninism and Maoism.
