Legislation
Law or a group of laws that have been prepared and enacted by a legislature or other governing body through its lawmaking process. Legislation is usually proposed (as a “bill”) by a member of the legislature (a “sponsor”) to committees, which consider it for recommendation. During review, and before enactment as written law, legislation may be amended to eliminate technical problems or to accommodate interested and affected parties. After deliberation and debate, the legislature votes on the proposed laws. After the legislation becomes written law, the judicial branch is charged with its interpretation.
