Global Warming
A term frequently used to describe the future warming of the earth's surface. It is the increase of the earth's mean temperature that has occurred in the recent past. This recent warming of the earth's atmosphere is said to be caused by the rising emission and trapping of greenhouse gases, otherwise known as the “greenhouse effect.” The increase in greenhouse gases is thought to be the result of human activities, including the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. The notable increases in the earth's temperature have caused sea levels to rise and will likely lead to extreme weather conditions and adverse impacts on the environment. The anticipated consequences of global warming, which include physical, economic, and social impacts, have brought the issue to the forefront of world policy. Major suggestions to reduce the effects of global warming include recycling, using less energy and water, burning less gasoline, and planting more trees. The very fact of global warming is a hotly debated political topic and has arguments on both sides. What is not in question is that the earth is getting warmer.
