Fieldwork
The collection of data in the field, as opposed to in the laboratory or in other controlled environments. Fieldwork involves observation of natural behavior and events in physical or social settings and interaction with respondents in their natural environ ment (e.g., through surveys, interviews) to supplement observations. In that their presence may affect subjects' natural behavior, fieldworkers may or may not identify themselves as researchers during observation and data collection. Fieldwork may produce both qualitative and quantitative data for analysis and can be integrated with data from other sources.
