Descriptive Statistics (Sociology)

The mathematical means of organizing data that focuses on describing and summarizing characteristics of the data. Descriptive statistics are different from inferential statistics, which focus on reaching conclusions and deducing suppo sitions about data. Statistical computations that are descriptive help order and condense large amounts of information into manageable and meaningful arrange ments. Examples of descriptive statistics are mean, median, mode, frequency distributions, and measures of variability.
