The scientific study of human populations. Demography is a social science sometimes referred to as population studies. The field of demography encompasses inquiry into a wide variety of population characteristics including but not limited to composition, mortality, growth, and changes over time. Demographic studies often explore relationships between significant population statistics and other forces such as economics and politics.
