Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan
A diagnostic imaging technique introduced in the 1970s in the medical field. In this procedure, a series of X rays are taken to obtain cross-sectional pictures of the brain. A computer transforms the X rays into an image that depicts horizontal images of the brain. While this procedure is being conducted, the patient must lie on a table without moving while the table slowly passes through a large X-ray machine. This procedure is often used to diagnose brain abnormalities, such as brain tumors or strokes.
