Computer-Based Instruction/Computer-Assisted Instruction/Computer-Adaptive Instruction
Delivering instruction via computer-based technologies, such as multimedia and the Internet, is called computer-based instruction (CBI). In CBI, individuals are presented with materials, assessed for mastery, provided with corrective feedback, and then prescribed further instruction. Computer-assisted instruction (CAI) is CBI adopted by a teacher as a supplement to a lesson, as an aide or tutor. Computer-adaptive instruction (CADI) is used in the instructional context involving learners with special needs, such as those with mobility, visual, and hearing impairments. In CADI, these learners are assisted with specialized technologies, such as speech recognition software and screen readers.
