Communication Medium
The channel through which information flows from sender to receiver. The communication medium generally refers to a communication technology, such as television or the Internet. However, language can also be considered a communication medium, such as in an exchange between human beings. The standard comprehension of the communication medium is based on information theory developed by Norbert Weiner and adapted by Claude Elwood Shannon and then Warren Weaver. The Shannon-Weaver model of communication outlines the process through which a message is transmitted through signals into a channel with noise and arrives at its destination to be decoded by the receiver. For more information, see Weaver and Shannon (1963).
