Collateral
A term derived from the Latin collateralis, meaning parallel, secondary, or additional. In the military, collateral damage is accidental destruction incurred during military activity. In law, collateral attack means to file an appeal; it is asking for a reversal of the initial judgment or asking to challenge a ruling in another case.
