A court that has jurisdiction over multiple geographical areas. In the federal system, there are 13 circuit courts, which serve as part of the federal appellate division. Cases on appeal are typically reviewed by three judges and decided by the majority. Some states have circuit courts that preside over multiple counties or towns. Circuit courts are considered courts of general jurisdiction.
