Centralization (Sociology)

The concentration of power in one central or individualized location or group (a feature of bureaucracies). Orders, guidelines, rules, policies, procedures, and regulations are passed down through a hierarchical structure, from the top to the bottom. Although most probation and parole departments are decentralized, most prison systems continue to use a centralized system of management.
