Abstract

The United Group case study delves into the intricacies of managing a large, family-owned conglomerate in Bangladesh, focusing on governance, leadership transitions, and brand management challenges. Founded in 1978, United Group expanded into one of Bangladesh’s most significant industrial conglomerates, with diverse operations across power generation, healthcare, education, and more. The narrative highlights the transition of leadership from the founding members to the next generation, emphasizing the conglomerate’s commitment to meritocracy and the strategic induction of second-generation family members into executive roles. This case study also explores the challenges posed by internal conflicts and succession planning, which have implications for corporate governance and the brand’s reputation.
