Some disabilities make it difficult for people to operate the physical buttons on a mobile device. The touch screen interface on the iPad can make this device easier to use for people with such motor difficulties. To take advantage of that interface, Apple introduced a feature called AssistiveTouch that allows people with motor difficulties to access many of the device functions controlled by physical buttons by tapping on icons that appear on the screen instead. AssistiveTouch is also helpful to someone using the device in a wheelchair, where the device may be on a mount and the person may not be able to easily access the buttons.
