[Page 300]Manages programs on pollution prevention and new and existing chemicals in the marketplace such as asbestos, lead, mercury, formaldehyde, PFOAs, and PCBs. Programs include the High Production Volume Challenge Program, Sustainable Futures, the Green Chemistry Program, Green Suppliers Network, the High Production Volume Challenge Program, Design for the Environment, and the Chemical Right-to-Know Initiative. Selects and implements control measures for new and existing chemicals that present a risk to human health and the environment. Oversees and manages regulatory evaluation and decision-making processes. Evaluates alternative remedial control measures under the Toxic Substances Control Act and makes recommendations concerning the existence of unreasonable risk from exposure to chemicals, including pesticides and fungicides. Develops generic and chemical-specific rules for new chemicals. Operates the toxic substance hotline.
