Professor James Hampton presents his research into individual differences in conceptualization. He began with the premise that all people had an abstract internal concept of what a sport is, and that they judge individual activities in comparison to that concept. He thought that if he could elicit information about the features of that abstract concept, he could map commonalities among people's concepts. However, he found that he was entirely wrong.
