Q&A with Rhema
Q: How do you integrate cases into your classes?
A: I integrate cases in my classes as one of the primary means for “applied learning.” Cases based on real scenarios provide students the opportunity to think through complex issues before they have to encounter them in their respective professions.
Q: How do students respond to the cases?
A: In general, students respond quite positively to cases. They quickly realize that critical and analytical thinking skills are paramount for success.
Q: Do you have any tips for those who are new to cases and want to use them in courses?
A: Jump in feet first! The teaching notes are invaluable, so be sure to utilize them.
Q: Do you have any case writing advice for those who’d like to get started?
A: I would suggest thinking about your own professional experiences, and specifically complex issues/decisions that you had to navigate. More than likely, you can turn those experiences into cases.
