Megan's Law
Megan's Law is the unofficial term for statutes within the United States that allow local police departments the authority to make data accessible to the community concerning individuals listed as registered sex offenders. Each state determines what data will be made public and how they will be distributed, but common information consists of the offending individual's name, photograph, address, dates of imprisonment, and the type of crime committed. While these data may be viewed on one's computer, the authorities possess the right to print the individual's photo in a newspaper, on road signs, or in any manner they feel that benefits the community.
