Sex slavery involves the enslavement of people who are required to perform sex acts as part of their servitude for the slaveholder or others. There are many forms and varieties of sex slavery. Although both males and females are victims of sex slavery, a disproportionate number are women and girls. Victims of sex slavery are forced into prostitution, marriage, bonded labor, and traditional forms of enslavement and in some cases ritual slavery, carried out in the context of regional religious beliefs or other cultural practices. Human trafficking is often a component of sex slavery, as the slaves are commonly transported across national boundaries.
