The mobilization of sport in the service of international development and peace building has increased in recent years. Various institutions now organize sport and physical activity programs in order to achieve development goals such as gender empowerment, health promotion, education and social inclusion. In addition, organizations deploy sport towards peace-related aims of post-conflict reconciliation, non-violence, and community integration. Taken together, these institutions constitute the Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) sector.
