Introduction

This chapter explores the role of accreditations and rankings in shaping business schools’ progress in relation to the responsible management learning and education (RMLE) agenda. We take an institutional perspective (Meyer & Rowan, 1977; DiMaggio & Powell, 1983) and consider how these two ‘mechanisms’ or ‘institutions’ influence business school strategies at the organizational level, and at the sector level, and examine the extent to which their stipulations influence business school behaviour and inform the institutional template for legitimate business school behaviour (Wedlin, 2007).
