In this chapter, we provide an overview of different methodological approaches used to study diffusion and learning. In political science, studies of diffusion seek to capture interdependence across units in the spread of an idea or action, such as the adoption of a policy by a state or country, the signing of compacts or treaties, the adoption of a norm of behavior, or the occurrence of political conflict.
