The Second Edition of The SAGE Handbook of Qualitative Research in Psychology provides comprehensive coverage of the qualitative methods, strategies, and research issues in psychology. Qualitative research in psychology has been transformed since the first edition's publication. Responding to this evolving field, existing chapters have been updated while three new chapters have been added on Thematic Analysis, Interpretation, and Netnography. Introduction
In the previous edition of this handbook (Hiles and Cˇermák, 2008) we characterized narrative psychology as the ‘new kid on the block', and for the present chapter we will portray it as a maturing (possibly post-adolescent) approach to inquiry that can provide the foundations for an emerging psycho-narratology. Moreover, we propose that story has the potential of being the great discovery for psychology.
Stories are ubiquitous, fundamental to the social and cultural processes that organize and structure human behaviour and experience.
