Introduction

Action research is by its very nature an action-oriented methodology. Its underpinning logic posits that learning from action is critical in the pursuit of transformative change. The robustness of action research processes derive in part from the way in which solutions are tested in the real world and learning is generated through iterative processes of reflection. The emphasis placed on generating action throughout the process marks the distinctiveness of action research from most other forms of research, and even participatory research (Bradbury-Huang, 2015; Burns, 2007; Coghlan and Brydon-Miller, 2014).
