Introduction
A growing global consensus exists on the need for inclusive education, as evidenced by the rapid and widespread ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and Sustainable Development Goal number 4 which calls for ‘inclusive and equitable quality education’ for all. Yet, evidence shows that children can face significant barriers to educational attainment, including gender, ethnicity, language diversity, poverty, and disability (WHO/World Bank, 2011).
