INTRODUCTION
This chapter positions coaching as it is used in the development of organisations. It makes the case that coaching can be used as a systemic and scalable tool for enhancing capabilities, culture and change in organisations. Although coaching is increasingly used in conjunction with other related disciplines such as organisation development (OD), there is a gap between their respective literatures and often a disconnection in how they are delivered. We would argue that this is in part a reflection of the fact that psychology and human resource development (HRD) – leadership development in particular – have a stronger presence in the coaching literature.
