Dead, Treatment of

The consideration and treatment of combat death has evolved with developing science, technology, and human commerce and attitudes related to the dead body in war. It can be generally understood in two eras that are divided by the second industrial revolution of the mid-19th century. In the first era, the physical property of the body was immediately perishable and treated as such. In the second era, it could be preserved and moved about, thus giving it more meaning while increasing the need for policies to deal with war dead on massive scales.
