Soccer War

The Soccer War, also known as the 100 Hour War, refers to a brief war interlude between Honduras and El Salvador in 1969. In Latin America, soccer is known simply as “football” and it is the most popular sport on the continent and in the Caribbean, across Spanish-, Portuguese-, and French-based cultures. In these regions, especially in countries experiencing insecurity and economic instability, soccer plays an important role. It transcends its role as just a sport and is considered by many to be a way to improve the quality of life and to be a distraction from unavoidable social ills.
