Romania

On account of its location in Eastern Europe, Romania has, throughout its history, been involved in conflicts with other states, such as Russia, Hungary/Austro-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire. Thus, the Romanian armed forces have played an important role in its history.

History

In ancient times, the area where present-day Romania is located was occupied by the Dacians. Acknowledging the Dacians’ military spirit, the Romans were unable to conquer the entire area. However, in 106, the Romans succeeded in occupying half of the Dacians’ land, holding it for 165 years, until the province of Dacia became the first that the Romans abandoned.
