Gianvito Martino is a neuroscientist and the director of the Division of Neuroscience of San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy. Martino was born in Bergamo, Italy, in 1962. He received a medical degree from the University of Pavia, Italy, in 1987. He went on to do a residency in neurology at the same institution, completing it in 1991. In 1990, he spent time as a visiting scientist in the Department of Neurology, Karolinska Institute, Sweden, followed by a term as research associate in the Department of Neurology, University of Chicago. In 1992, he joined the Neuroimmunology Unit at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, and since 2008, he has been the director of the Division of Neuroscience there.
