Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Adolescents

Transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) is a term that refers to people who may not feel that their gender identity or gender expression is in alignment with societally enforced norms of the gender binary of male/female. Whereas sex has historically referred to the binary of male/female, gender identity refers to the sense a person has of being a man, a woman, or some other gender. Gender expression refers to the ways in which persons may select to express their gender identity.
