Latina/o Americans and Gender

The purpose of this entry is to highlight the influence of gender socialization in the lives of Latina/o Americans. First, this entry presents information on who may identify as Latina/o American. The entry then acknowledges the many ways in which Latina/o and U.S. cultures interact to influence gendered behaviors and gender roles within the Latina/o American community. Specifically, Latina/o gender expression is dependent on the strength of individuals’ ties to their cultures of origin and the U.S. culture, along with their nationality, race, ethnicity, reasons for immigration, and phenotype.
