India

India is the second-largest country in the world in terms of population, after China, with a population of 1.2 billion as of July 2014. Just under one-third (32.4 percent) of the population lives in urban areas, with the largest cities including the capital of New Delhi (25.0 million), Mumbai (20.7 million), and Kolkata (11.8 million). The median age of the population is 27 years, with 28.5 percent age 14 or younger, and a population growth rate of 1.25 percent annually. India is classified by the World Bank as a lower-middle-income country, with a per capita gross domestic product (GDP) in 2014 of $5,800. As of 2010, 29.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
